Instructions for Water Leak Sensor

This proven IP-capable Water Leak Sensor for the early detection of leaking moisture and water-containing liquids. The consequences of an (unrecognized) water damage can be effectively reduced with this IP-based water leak detector. Also deionized water and battery acid (ruptured UPS batteries) are reliable detectoed by Didactum`s water leak sensor.

The IP capable water leak sensor is compatible with all IP-based remote measuring and monitoring systems from manufacturer Didactum. The PDU series also support this IP-sensor.

How the Water Leak Sensor works

As soon as the two metal wires of the water leak sensor come into contact with moisture / condensate / water, you and your colleagues will be alerted by Didactum`s IP-driven remote monitoring device via e-mail, SMS (via GSM modem) or via optional alarm siren. In addition, so called SNMP traps will  be sent to SCADA systems, DCIM software and Network-Management-Systems (NMS) in case of an water leakage.

MIB files and Nagios plugins are included with IP-based remote measurement and monitoring systems. By means of the actuator function of remote monitorign unit, a water inlet / water leakage can also be reported to Building Technology Systems.

Installation location of Water Leak Sensor

The IP-capable water leak detection sensor is typically installed at the bottom of IT racks / server cabinets. As a suitable installation location for leakage sensor, the double floor of server rooms / data centers can also be selected. Furthermore, one Water Leak Detection Sensor should be installed on the floor of air-conditioning system.

Connection of the Water Leak Sensor to the IP-based remote monitoring device

The RJ-11 connector of Water Leak Sensor is simply plugged into a free sensor port of the Ethernet enabled remote monitoring unit. The water detection sensor is automatically recognized by auto-identification function and displayed in the multilingual web interface of the remote monitoring device.

How to set up notifications and alerts is shown in this Quick Install Guide.

Fixing the Water Leak Detector to a wall

On the back of the IP-based Water Leak Detector is a round bump. This is necessary if you want to mount the Water Leak Detector to the wall with the included screw. If you wish to install the Water Leak Detector at a different location, please take a cutter blade and carefully remove the round bump.

Attaching the IP-based Leakage Sensor to the mounting bracket

Depending on the surface on which the water leakage sensor has to be installed, please select the mounting height A or B.

Installation height A: The surface where the water leak sensor is installed is not conductive. The two metal bars of sensor should be as close to the ground as possible.

Installation height B: If the surface is conductive (stainless steel floor, metal floor etc.), mount the metal bars of the leak sensor a little bit higher.

The height should be selected in such a way that an escape of water / moisture is reliably detected.

Cable extension of Water Leak Detector

The water sensor is delivered with a 2 meter (6,5 ft) long RJ-11 patch cable. If required, you can extend this IP-based water leak sensor with own patch cable up to a maximum of 100 meters (328 ft.).

The cable assignment of the intelligent IP-based sensors of the manufacturer Didactum can be found here.

If  your IP-sensor water leakage is extended, please always use a water-resistant shrink tube.
